August 2009 Colton Village Hall gets Grant.
Celebrations are in order for all of us living in Colton. The Village Hall Management Committee learned in July 2009 that we have been awarded a grant of £29,913 by Staffordshire Environmental Fund, under the Landfill Communities Fund.
This excellent news allows the committee to complete an ambitious programme of extension and modernisation which began in 2005, also supported at that time by a grant from Staffordshire Environmental Fund under the Landfill Communities Fund. Thanks to the Landfill Fund, and also to a number of generous grants from Colton Parish Lands Trust, the improved village hall will boast an enlarged main hall with a stage area and stage lighting. The extended hall will accommodate larger parties and events, while the meeting room, which can be hired separately, will have tea/coffee-making facilities and a sink, as well as new toilet facilities. The hall as a whole will also benefit from two new, up-to-date gas boilers, making the central heating much more economical and environmentally friendly.
Allan Lloyd, Chairman of the Project management Group said, “ We are delighted that years of planning and hard work have resulted in us being able to provide a village hall that the people of Colton need and deserve. Our village hall is a great focal point for social and recreational activities in the parish and these improvements will be of huge and lasting benefit. The hall will be even more attractive too for outside hirers, who already look to us for a venue for their celebrations. We are very grateful for the award from the Landfill Communities Fund and from Colton Parish Lands Trust. Without their help these major improvements would still be a distant prospect.”
The Village Hall is planning a formal opening of its new facilities when the work is finished in the autumn of 2009. Representatives of Staffordshire Environmental Fund and Colton Parish Lands Trust, as well as other friends and supporters, will be invited to join in the celebrations.
